Merck KgaA: Q1 earnings fell slightly, sales increased

Merck KgaA said quarterly earnings fell slightly on an annual basis, although sales rose, while confirming an earlier estimate for 2021 that it had previously given.

The German group of pharmaceuticals and chemicals announced EBITDA of 1.50 billion euros for the quarter, down from 1.62 billion euros a year ago.

Profit after tax also fell to € 764 million from € 806 million in the same period last year.

Merck confirmed that sales for the period increased to 4.97 billion euros from 4.45 billion euros in the third quarter of 2020.

He also confirmed the recently increased estimates he gave, stating that he expects organic growth of 13% -15% for the whole year, higher than the previous estimate for growth of 12% -14%.

Sales for the whole year are expected to reach 19.3-19.85 billion euros.
