Mertz: Germany should look for new commercial partners

Chancellor Friedrich Mertz said today that Germany should look beyond a trade agreement between the United States and the European Union that imposes 15% duties on EU products and find new commercial partners in the coming years, according to the Reuters news agency. “How do we handle world trade if, for example, Americans are no longer willing to adhere to the rules of the World Trade Organization?” Mertz said during an event. “We need to look for partners in the world who share our way of thinking,” added CDU’s Conservative Party leader, whose acceptance rate is 25%, which according to Reuters is the same as that of far -right Alternative for Deutschland (AfD). “We need good economic relations with the US and we may easily succeed,” Merz said, noting that commercial capabilities can be opened with South America, Asia and Africa and should be needed.
