After 45 years of marriage, Meryl Streep and Don Gummer put an end to their union. The actress, 74, and the artist, 76, ended their relationship six years ago, a spokeswoman for the artist told “Page Six” magazine.
“Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than six years and, although they always look out for each other, they have chosen separate lives,” a spokeswoman for the artist told the magazine.
Although the two haven’t been seen publicly since the 2018 Oscars, the actress was seen wearing her wedding ring at this year’s “Princess of Asturias” in Spain.
The union of Streep and Gummer
Meryl and Don got married in 1978 and have since kept their relationship out of the spotlight.
From their romance came four children: Henry Wolfe, 43, Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer, 37, and Louisa Jacobson, 30. The two also have five grandchildren.
In 2002, in an interview with “Vogue” magazine, Streep gave details of her long marriage. “A willingness to give in – and shut up once in a while,” she said at the time.
“There is no roadmap on how to create a family: it is always a huge negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and have huge bonds in the name of love,” she added.
In 2017, Meryl made another rare comment about her husband after being awarded “Best Actress” for her performance in “The Iron Lady”.
In her speech, she stated, “First, I’m going to thank Don, because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, they play music for him,” she began.
“I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives you gave me,” he concluded.
Previously, the actress had a romance with John Cazale, who died of lung cancer.
