Meryl Streep and husband Don Gummer have been living separate lives for more than six years. The exclusivity is Page Six and was confirmed by a spokesperson for the actress in recent days in Spain for the Princess of Asturias award. One of the most solid couples in Hollywood had not been such for some time as we recently discovered also for Will Smith and Jada Pinkett.
The three-time Oscar-winning actress, 74, and the sculptor, 76, have been separated for more than six years. This is the statement from Meryl Streep’s representative: «Don Gummer and Meryl Streep have been separated for more than 6 years and, although they will always care for each other, they have chosen to live apart».
The couple has been seen together for the last time on an official occasion at the 2018 Oscars. Then, at the very beginning of the speech, accepting the award, she said, “First I’m going to thank Don because when you thank your husband at the end of the speech, the words are drowned out by the music. I want him to know that everything I value most in our lives was given to me by you.”
The couple’s long absence in public had given no room for gossip given that the two have always maintained a private profile, living mainly on the east coast of the USA, in Connecticut, and not in California. At the Spanish award the actress, unaccompanied by her husband, was still wearing her wedding ring.
Streep met and married Gummer in 1978 shortly after the death of her then-boyfriend, actor John Cazale. It would have been her brother who made them aware of her. The couple has four children: Henry Wolfe, 43 years old, who works in the world of music, and actresses Mamie Gummer, 40, Grace Gummer37, e Louisa Jacobson, 30, the protagonist of the series The Gilded Age. They also have five grandchildren. Henry, has two children with Tamryn Storm Hawker. Mamie has two children with husband Mehar Sethi. Grace recently gave birth to her first child with her husband, record producer Mark Ronson.
When asked the secret to her long marriage, Streep told Vogue in 2002: “Good will and willingness to bend and keep quiet every now and then. There is no roadmap for how to raise a family – it’s always a huge negotiation. But I have a holistic need to work and have huge bonds of love in my life.”
Perhaps a clue, however, lay in the couple’s real estate business. The loft in New York City’s Tribeca neighborhood sold for $15.8 million in January 2020. Streep then purchased a $4 million home in Pasadena, California in July of the same year.
