Meryl Streep 74, said, on Tuesday (14), to deadline that the production company responsible for the two films “Mamma Mia” Judy Craymer, plans a third film and she is thinking of an alternative to bring her character back into the plot.
“I don’t know how they’re going to do it. They have an idea. I haven't heard it yet, but it's on [minha agenda] and I will hear about it soon”, he revealed.
“Of course I want to do this. I think people love it,” she added.
The interview was given during the Cannes Film Festival, which started this week in France. Alongside Streep was her longtime agent, Kevin Huvane, who said, “We’re optimistic about it.”
The actress, winner of two Oscars and an honorary Palme d'Or, stars “Mamma Mia” (2008) alongside Amanda Seyfried . In the plot, she plays Donna, the owner of a hotel in Greece, who is preparing her daughter's wedding there. The bride, Sophie, ends up inviting three of her mother's ex-boyfriends to try to find out who her father is.
A sequel to the musical was released in 2018, which reveals Donna's death and does not feature Streep. “Mamma Mia: Here We Go Again” follows Sophie through her pregnancy while introducing Donna's past with the three men introduced in the first film.
