Meta, which owns Facebook, announced on Monday (24) that its research team has assembled a new artificial intelligence supercomputer, which it believes will be the fastest in the world when completed later this year.
The new AI Research SuperCluster (RSC) will help build better AI models that can learn from trillions of examples, work in hundreds of languages, and analyze text, images and video together to determine if the content is harmful, according to Meta.
“This research will not only help keep people safe in our services today, but also in the future as we build the metaverse,” the company said.
The social media company changed its name in October to Meta to reflect its focus on the metaverse, which it believes is the successor to the mobile internet.
The metaverse, a broad term that has generated a lot of buzz in Silicon Valley, refers to shared virtual environments that people can access through different devices and where they can work, play and socialize.
“The experiences we are building for the metaverse require enormous computational power (quintillion operations per second) and RSC will enable new AI models that can learn from trillions of examples, understand hundreds of languages and more,” said the president. – Executive of Meta, Mark Zuckerberg.
Meta said the RSC is among the fastest running AI supercomputers. A company spokesperson said it had partnered with teams from Nvidia, Pure Storage and Penguin to assemble the supercomputer.
