Meta’s founder, Mark Zuckerberg, presented this Wednesday (27) the new generation of mixed reality glasses — the Meta Quest 3.
The announcement was made during the annual event that presents the technology giant’s news, Connect 2023
The main novelty of the accessories is the improvement in the ability to combine virtual elements superimposed on the physical environment.
“You can play a virtual piano on your coffee table or open a portal to another dimension right in your living room. All this while the colorful, high-fidelity Passthrough keeps the physical environment in view with more than 10 times more pixels compared to Meta Quest 2”, explains the statement released by Meta.
According to the announcement, to start the mixed reality experience between the fantastic world and the real world, simply double-tap the side of the headset.
Compared to the previous glasses, the Meta Quest 2, the new generation has a jump of almost 30% in its screen resolution. “You get 25 pixels per degree and 1,218 pixels per inch for the best resolution in the entire Quest line,” the company said.
Furthermore, Meta also showed improvements regarding loading time and performance; reduced optical profile thickness by 40% compared to Quest 2 and increased audio range.
The company also promises that the glasses will bring greater comfort to the user, and can be adjusted to different face shapes and hairstyles.
The product will be launched on October 10th, costing from US$499.99 (around R$2525) for the 128 GB version and US$649.99 (around R$3282) for 512 GB. The values in reais were not disclosed by Meta, they are direct conversions, without considering national taxes.
Other news
Connect 2023 also brought news about artificial intelligence resources in Meta’s tools. One of the announcements is the beta version of Meta AI — a type of conversion assistant, like ChatGPT, which will be available on WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram.
Meta AI is also expected to be part of the new generation of Ray-Ban smart glasses and the Quest 3, although the feature is only being shipped in the United States for now.
In a statement, the company said that in text chats, Meta AI will be able to access information in real time and offer a tool for generating images.
