Meta has announced the launch of the Horizon Worlds metaverse for Android smartphones and PCs via browsers. Previously, the metaverse was only available for virtual reality headsets.

At the moment, a limited launch is planned – selected users will have access to the metaverse. In addition, for now they will only have access to the free shooter Super Rumble. However, in the coming months the company plans to expand both the lists of users and the number of activities available in the metaverse.

“Early access will be available to more and more people as we gather feedback and develop the user experience. The Metaverse should be accessible to everyone, regardless of the device they use. Quest virtual reality headsets remain the most immersive way to access the metaverse, but there must be multiple entry points,” the company said in a statement.

For now, Horizon Worlds remains only available to residents of Canada, France, Iceland, Ireland, Spain, the UK and the US. However, the Meta metaverse has not yet achieved much popularity – in mid-August it was reported that the number of daily users of the project does not exceed 900 people.
