Meta said this Wednesday (25) that it will reactivate former US President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks, just over two years after suspending him after the attack on the Capitol.
“Our assessment is that the risk [para a segurança pública] decreased sufficiently,” noted Meta’s President of Global Affairs, Nick Clegg, in a post.
“As such, we will reinstate Mr. Trump on Facebook and Instagram in the coming weeks. However, we are doing this with new guardrails to determine recidivism, ”he added.
With his accounts reactivated, Trump will once again have access to huge and powerful communication and fundraising platforms as he plans his third run for the White House.
The decision, which comes on the heels of a similar move by Twitter, could also further change the landscape of how a long list of smaller online platforms behave towards the former president’s accounts.
Twitter restored its account in November following its acquisition by billionaire Elon Musk, but the former president has yet to use it again, opting to remain on his own social media platform, Truth Social.
But the Trump campaign earlier this month sent a letter to Meta asking the company to unblock its Facebook account, said a source familiar with the application. CNN making your return more likely.
It was not immediately clear whether Trump would take the opportunity to return to Meta platforms. Representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
