Over the past six months, the number of monthly active users (MAU) of the MetaMask wallet owned by Ethereum studio ConsenSys has grown fivefold to 5 million.

The app reached the number of 1 million MAU in a year from October 2019 to October 2020.
According to ConsenSys, the explosive growth in recent months has been fueled by the popularity of decentralized finance (DeFi) and non-fungible token (NFT) services.
The company noted that users are increasingly interested in the MetaMask Swaps feature. Added in October last year, the option allows you to exchange tokens on decentralized exchanges, aggregators and market makers right in the Ethereum wallet.
In terms of the main markets for the app, ConsenSys reported that India and Indonesia are in the top five, while Vietnam and Nigeria are in the top ten.
“These people are increasingly using MetaMask to generate additional income or for long-term investments. Many of them do not have access to the local banking system and therefore need alternative technologies that could serve as savings accounts, ”the statement said.
