Metaverse to discover, between Milan and New York

What is the crypto art? Can one experience powerful emotions in front of a virtual work, as happens in front of a Pollock or a Van Gogh? Do you get shivers even when looking at a painting in the Metaverse? Without material brushstrokes, colors on canvas, macro sculptures, chaotic lines, our senses seem turned off, disabled. Nevertheless – tadah – the heart beats even like this, immersing yourself in something immaterial and unpredictable. Crypto art is a floating system, a galaxy that reveals an unexpected magnetic, sensual and engaging soul.

And it is a world that can be explored anywhere, even in the clouds at 9000 meters above sea level. An all-encompassing adventure between Milan, the Metaverse and New York on a flight The Company100% smart business class with a super fast wifi connection, was an opportunity to discover Crypto Art beginsthe first phygital book between virtual and real (there is the paper volume but also the digital space) which tells the story of this new era through conversations with 50 artists who reveal inspirations, visions and dynamics linked to their way of creating and sharing works, in a world yet to be discovered. Published by Rizzoli New York, the book was born from an idea by The NFT Magazine and its founder, entrepreneur and innovator in art tech Andrea Concas, and is curated by Eleonora Brizi, pioneer of crypto art. Given its innovative nature, it is distributed in bookstores – including those of large contemporary art museums – and on the website www.thenftmag.iowhere you can find an exclusive version to collect just like a work of art via NFT (non-fungible token).

Chat with artists in the clouds

Suspended over the ocean, on board the La Compagnie boutique plane (it has 75 seats and a super chic style) headed to the Big Apple, we chat, read and live immersive, unsettling experiences. But this time at the on-board microphone, the one normally used by flight attendants, there were the two authors of the book, who invited passengers (unaware of the event) to connect to the Metaverse of The Nemesis via a link. Even more engaging entertainment than the latest Oscar-winning film or David Bowie documentary.

Thanks to the super-fast line, it was like entering a video game where you could explore the works and “talk” with the artists live, discovering their inspirations – from Angie Taylor’s English punk to Lapin Mignon’s Little Prince – accompanied by a sense of wonder at being present in a special artistic universe, free from any perimeter and categorization. “But are you really flying?” asked Hackatao, the most famous Italian duo of crypto artists, who spoke about symbolism, psychology and wild nature as refuge and salvation.

An unpredictable encounter, between turbulence and a drink. Because crypto art, despite being mysterious and still shrouded in many prejudices, has the instinctive charm of non-places. You can feel that magic that travels on the road or places where you pass through freely emanate, without really knowing where you are but carrying strong sensations within you. And thanks to Blockchain technology, a place of exchange that allows artists to certify the uniqueness of the work through NFTs (non-fungible tokens), which guarantee the authenticity of the work itself, there are no fakes or copies. Only one person can own that particular “piece”. Crypto art is an inclusive embrace, a sphere without distinctions of gender, race, age, place of origin: here transparency, participation and relationships between artists and communities are essential, the virtuous values lost in the analogue are reproduced and become real. It is a movement that does not fit into any perimeter without defined styles, “geographically agnostic”, it exists in an anonymous and accessible virtual space. And what can represent the perfect “non-place” better than a plane? In flight everything has a magical, almost unreal connotation.

If you are in the mood to experience cultural and magical adventures at high altitude, The Company predicts many other events, including the tasting of a starred menu and the live meeting with the chefs on board to share the contents and creativity of the recipes and a super special panettone signed by Lorenzo Cogo in the Christmas week. The flight includes only two routes, Milan-New York and Paris-New York.

Those who wish to enter the Metaverse but still keep their feet on the ground can try immersing themselves in the space of The Nemesis in Milan during the Milan Games Week (24-26 November), participating in thematic games and even challenging Alessandro Del Piero, who will be present “live” on 26 November and will challenge some finalists between the virtual and real world.

Between digital and physical: welcome to New York City

After landing in New York, the book left the Metaverse and returned to being a physical object: it was presented in its “material” version at Living room in Brooklyna brand new Italian space with an eclectic vocation, halfway between gallery, lab and place of conversation. In addition to Andrea Concas and Elonora Brizi, authors and curators of the book, on the sofa there were some of the 50 artists selected for the book (and they were real, human, passionate!). «I’m not a magician, but I certainly experienced magic in New York, in 2018, during a conference on digital art», said Eleonora Brizi, digital and crypto art curator. «A question kept bombarding my brain: where was I until that moment? What I was experiencing was the most contemporary manifestation of art in creative language. Crypto art doesn’t have an aesthetic and that’s the point, we don’t feel the need to classify or label it, it has even given the possibility for certain genres that had never been called art to be defined that way.”

The Living room in Brooklyn will open the doors to many other cultural events in the coming months. There is an amazing agenda of events all open and accessible, including an exhibition with workshop on Bruno Munari’s «Supplement to the Italian Dictionary» and a creative drawing workshop with the team of The Happy Broadcast.

The perfect starting point for exploring Manhattan and breathing in the atmosphere of the art galleries (there are more than 200 in the neighborhood) is theInnside New York NoMad in Chelsea, which has glass-walled rooms with spectacular views (metaverse effect!), a 24-hour gym, DJs in the lobby and great drinks and high-quality American dinner at the restaurant The Wilsons. Within walking distance there are many points of interest, from the High Line to Chelsea Market, and just around the corner is the Fashion Institute of Technology, where there are always free admission exhibitions dedicated to fashion. For lovers of punk rock legends, the bar of the Chelsea hotel is unmissable in the same neighborhood: with a little imagination you can still see Sid Vicious and Jimi Hendrix there.
