ClimaTempo meteorologist Carine Gama said in an interview with CNN that there is a rain alert for almost all of Brazil during the first week of 2022, especially for the Southeast region.
Gama explained that during the turn of the year there was heavy rainfall on the coast of São Paulo, parts of Rio de Janeiro, Minas Gerais and Teresina, which recorded 200mm of rain between December 31, 2021 and this Monday (3) .
As he explained, this week’s alert indicates that Pará, Piauí, Maranhão, Tocantins, Goiás, São Paulo and Minas Gerais are on the route of more extensive storms.
An intertropical convergence zone should reach the north of Pará, Amapá, Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará during this week.
In Bahia, the main attention will be to the west of the state, and not to the south, which has been punished by strong storms since the beginning of December.
As of Thursday (6), a cold front and a new convergence zone in the South Atlantic will bring attention to São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro and Minas Gerais, with high accumulations of rain.
Gama also said that the next 15 days will be of heavy rain in the Zona da Mata and in the southern region of the state of Minas Gerais, but not as strong as that recorded in the state of Bahia.
According to the meteorologist, the main problem is that this new precipitation finds land already soaked by previous rains. In addition, the uneven terrain of the Zona da Mata is also a risk factor for landslides.
