Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said on Tuesday (3) that he had no contact with Gustavo Petro, president of Colombia, and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, president of Brazil, to discuss the political crisis that Venezuela is going through.
“No, I didn’t. Who said that?” asked the Mexican president.
Jesús Ramírez Cuevas, Obrador’s spokesman, clarified that Petro “called a call,” but that “nobody said that [a ligação] was carried out”.
“The president of Colombia is my friend. And I express my support and solidarity, because he is under strong pressure from the oligarchic groups in Colombia,” added López Obrador.
“Maybe during the day he will call me, but we have not had any conversation about it,” the Mexican head of state responded when asked by reporters if he planned to have a conversation about the current situation in Venezuela.
López Obrador also informed that he expects Lula to visit Mexico on September 30th. The president of Brazil is expected to participate in Claudia Sheinbaum’s inauguration on October 1st.
The president of Mexico had been mentioned, along with Petro and Lula, as one of the possible mediators of the post-electoral crisis that Venezuela is facing. The Presidency of Colombia had told CNN on Monday (2) that the leaders would meet virtually to discuss the matter.
THE CNN is trying to contact the Foreign Ministries of Colombia and Brazil.
