At least 22 people were injured on Saturday (5) after a fight between fans during a professional football game in Mexico between Querétaro and Atlas, at the Corregidora stadium in Querétaro, the state’s Civil Protection Coordination said.

“Due to the events that took place this Saturday afternoon at the Corregidora stadium, the CEPC informs that so far there is no record of dead people, 22 injured, 9 of them transferred to the General Hospital and of these, two of them in serious condition” said the entity. in a statement.

Both the League and the Mexican Football Federation said they had opened investigations into the incident, which took place during the match between Gallos Blanco del Querétaro and Atlas.

“Inadmissible” Violence

Mikel Arriola, executive president of the Mexican Football League, condemned the events and said those responsible would be “punished”.

“The violence at the Corregidora stadium in Querétaro is unacceptable and regrettable. Those responsible for the lack of security in the stadium will be punished in an exemplary way. The safety of our players and fans is a priority! We will continue to report,” he wrote on his Twitter account.

Times condemn violence

The Atlas club said it “regrets and disapproves” of what happened, and that football should be an “ally to promote values ​​and fun for the whole family”. The team called on authorities to “investigate thoroughly and come to the ultimate consequences, determining the responsibilities of those involved”.

Querétaro also condemned the violence in the stadium and said, in a statement posted on the networks, that they are in “coordination with the authorities so that they act vigorously against any responsible”.
