Members one gang they kidnapped and killed six women in the central state of Guanajuato of Mexico this month and then burned their dead bodies. Only five of the victims have been identified so far, state prosecutors said.
The women disappeared on March 7 from the town of Selaya, an area plagued by gang violence in recent years.
Prosecutor General Carlos Samaripa said gang members abducted the women and killed them in the nearby town of Juventino Rosas, northwest of Celaya. “They took the six young women to Juventino Rosas, to a place where they later killed them”said Samaripa at the press conference he gave. “Many suspects” have been arrested, he added, without specifying the exact number.
Specialist teams are still working at the site where the bodies were found, which were almost cremated. From the remains found, the identities of the five women were ascertained.
