Mexico: More than 300 migrants were found crammed into trucks

More than 300 Central American migrants found trapped inside three trailers near the Guatemalan border, announced the Mexican authorities on Friday night.

Members of the Mexican Immigration Service, along with National Guard police, said they stopped the trucks early Thursday morning as part of routine checks and found 329 people from Guatemala and Honduras, including 114 unaccompanied minors.

Authorities stopped the two trucks on a boulevard south of Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of Chiapas, according to an Interior Ministry statement.

In Immigrants food and water were provided. The unaccompanied minors were transferred to accommodation of the immigration authority, while the adults were transferred to nearby offices to begin the administrative processing of their data, the announcement added.

The incident comes as the US toughens its approach to the growing humanitarian crisis on the US-Mexico border after requests from Central American migrants to avoid the dangers of this voyage failed to deter thousands from trying to reach country.
