A Mexican journalist has been killed in the state of Sinaloa (northwest); he is the ninth person to die in the country since the beginning of the year, Mexican justice and Reporters Without Borders (RSF) reported on Thursday.
“Unfortunately, it was confirmed that a corpse found on the street (…) was that of journalist Luis Enrique Ramirez Ramos,” prosecutor Sara Quinones explained via Twitter.
The disappearance of Mr. Ramires, 59, was reported to the authorities last Wednesday night.
The body of the reporter was found yesterday morning near Kuliakan, the capital of the state.
“This is clearly a murder. The body was found on the outskirts of Culiacan, wrapped in plastic,” Balbina Flores, RSF’s representative in Mexico, told AFP.
Luis Enrique Ramirez worked for the newspaper El Debate. He was also the founder of the news website Fuentes Fidedignas.
He is the ninth journalist to be assassinated in 2022 in Mexico, one of the most dangerous countries in the world for those who practice this profession. About 150 press workers have been killed in the country since 2000, according to the RSF.
