The iconic Mexican proponent of of human rights Rosario Imbara died Saturday at the age of 95 in Monterrey, his president announced Mexico Man Manuel Lopez Obrador.
“Bad news: Rosario Imbara de Piedra is dead. “Her life will always remind us of the need to love our children deeply, to show solidarity with those who are suffering because they have lost loved ones,” the Mexican president wrote on Twitter.
Rosario Imbara founded the Committee for the Defense of Prisoners, Persecuted, Missing and Political Refugees, the “Comité ¡Eureka!” .
“He is a pioneer in defending human rights, peace and democracy in Mexico,” the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH) said in a statement.
Disappearances began in Mexico with the “dirty war” of the authorities against the revolutionary movements during the period 1960-1980.
Their numbers skyrocketed in the 2000s, with the rise of drug traffickers in Mexico and the war waged by President Felipe Calderon (2006-2012).
