A pregnant woman in Mexico was found dead with her abdomen cut in two by a couple who stole her unborn baby, authorities said
Rosa Isela Castro Vazquez, 20, she was eight months pregnant when she was kidnapped by a man and a woman, who removed the baby from her womb and dumped her body.
Police arrested the alleged perpetrators after discovering a newborn baby in their possession, the attorney general’s office in the eastern state of Veracruz said in a statement.
The two allegedly cut the 20-year-old’s stomach pregnant to remove the fetus, because the woman was unable to bear childrenan official connected to the investigation told AFP on condition of anonymity.
The suspects, a man and a woman, appeared before a judge on Monday (5/12) charged with kidnapping and femicide.
“N” is often used in Mexico to withhold a suspect’s full name due to local privacy laws.
Authorities also reportedly now have the baby, a girl, alive and well in their possession.
A Texas woman in September murdered her pregnant friend and removed the fetus from the victim’s womb, which she then tried to pass off as her own. Taylor Parker, 29, was sentenced to death for the crime.
More than 3,700 women were murdered in violence-plagued Mexico in 2021, of which about 1,000 cases were classified as femicidesaccording to official data.
