Mexico: “Trump’s imposition of duties is unjust, we are not agreeing”

Mexico described the 30% imposition of US President Donald Trump, and said he insisted on the negotiations. “We said at the negotiating table that it is an unfair treatment and that we are not agreeing,” the Ministries of Economy and Foreign Affairs said in a joint statement. “Mexico is already in negotiations to agree on an alternative to customs duties that will allow businesses and jobs to be protected on both sides of the border,” they said. For its part, Mexican President Claudia Seinbaum said on Saturday (12/7) “sure” that an agreement can be reached with the US before the duties came into force. In any case, of course, speaking during an event in the Mexican state of Sonora, Seinbaum added that Mexico’s sovereignty is not negotiable. Source: RES
