Mexico: Two mass graves with 31 bodies found

Mexican authorities proceeded to exhume 31 bodies from two mass graves, the public prosecutors announced yesterday Thursday. “We have counted 31 victims,” ​​Jalisco state prosecutor Luis Joaquin Mendes told the press, adding that authorities have information that allows them to identify about half of them, to be handed over to their families.

The first secret tomb was discovered on February 1 at the San Isidro Massatepec site in the municipality of Tlachomulco de Zuñiga. After days of searching and digging up body bags, a second one was found. In 2022, 301 bodies were found in 41 secret mass graves, compared to 544 in 2020, where a tragic record was set.
