MG: Confusion between delegate and police ends after 30 hours of negotiation

Minas Gerais Civil Police (PCMG) delegate Monah Zein left her apartment, in the Pampulha region, in Belo Horizonte (MG), after more than 30 hours of negotiation with agents. She opened the door at around 5pm this Wednesday (22) and allowed the team to enter.

The police arrived at the property at 9am on Tuesday (21), after she sent messages threatening her own health to a group of friends and co-workers.

She was treated by a medical team and given sedatives. According to the defense, Zein remains hospitalized and her condition is stable.

According to publications made by the delegate on social media, the Civil Police had humiliated her and that was why she would not return to work. Her defense stated that, despite the police treating her as a potential suicide, she was just wanting to stay in her home, without taking any risks.

“She didn’t want to be locked up, she just wanted the police to leave. And unfortunately it was an act [da polícia] with a lot of excess. So today my intention is precisely to seek an answer to this. Why the excess, why they didn’t let us get closer to the door, they didn’t let us go up… A war apparatus was set up, there were around 20 police officers there, and at no time did she threaten anyone, at no time did she speak that he was going to kill himself”, says lawyer Jucélia Braz.

According to the defense, the delegate decided to surrender herself due to the situation to which her family was being exposed. “Thank God it had a good outcome, and our intention now is to seek an answer precisely as to why this happened,” she added.

The defense is considering taking action against the Minas Gerais Civil Police. A CNN contacted the Civil Police and is awaiting a response.

Understand the case

Throughout Tuesday (21), Monah Zein made several live broadcasts on her social networks with her gun in hand showing excerpts of her negotiation. Civil police went to her house after messages she sent in groups. She claimed they had no warrant and no reason to be there.

According to her defense, the civil servant’s delicate health condition is due to persecution and retaliation within the scope of the Civil Police, “an institution that has been making its employees ill without providing any type of assistance”.
