MG: deputy files project to prevent acts such as masturbation by Unisa students

Minas Gerais state deputy Beatriz Cerqueira (PT) filed, on Tuesday (19), a bill in the Legislative Assembly of Minas Gerais (ALMG) to prevent sporting events when there are cases of sexual harassment, obscene acts, misogyny or manifestations of a sexual nature.

The project follows the case of medical students from Universidade Santo Amaro (Unisa) who were naked and simulated masturbation in front of female volleyball athletes during a university game in the interior of São Paulo.

The incident went viral on social media last Sunday (17). The São Paulo Civil Police is investigating the case and the university reported that it expelled some of the students who were identified in the game.

According to the bill being processed at ALMG, any and all matches must be interrupted if the events take place, whether professional or amateur events, in stadiums, gymnasiums or public or private sports arenas. After the interruption, those responsible for the competition must contact the competent authorities.

According to the justification presented by the parliamentarian, “attitudes such as that of Unisa medical students, which offend, humiliate and embarrass women, can never be normalized and must be combated with the rigor of the law”.

“In addition to interrupting sports matches, this proposal also aims to hold the organizers of sports competitions responsible, if they are conniving or omitted in criminal practices”, continues Cerqueira in the bill document.

According to the document, the PL also calls for the promotion of educational campaigns against the aforementioned behaviors, whether during breaks or before sporting competitions.
