Standing amid the rubble of a historic temple in the ancient city of Inwa, a local guide and a resident stated on Sunday (6) that the 7.7 magnitude earthquake, which reached Myanmar just over a week ago, left her and many others without lace and dozens of temples destroyed.
“We are heartbroken that he collapsed. It’s as if a family member had died,” said Mar Oo outside the temple Nu Brick in ruins.
The 36 -year -old woman is among several local residents who depended on the sale of flowers and souvenirs, tour guides and photos for temple visitors to survive.
The number of killed by the powerful earthquake that occurred on March 28 increased to 3,471, the state media reported, with 4,671 people injured and another 214 still missing.
Myanmar’s military has struggled to govern the country since they overthrew the government of the Nobel Prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi in 2021, leaving the economy and basic services, including health, a situation aggravated by the earthquake.
