The actor Michael Fassbender known for playing the young Magneto character in the “X-Men” franchise, suffered an accident in his Porsche last Sunday (11) during the race 24 Hours of Le Mans, France . Participating for the second time in the longest running car competition in the world, he lost control of the 911 model and hit a wall with a barrier of tires.
The information was confirmed by the team that the actor represented, Proton Competition, through a post on Twitter.
They said Fassbender had entered the endurance race on Saturday and still had 18 minutes left to complete his six-hour stint. The star was not hurt and managed to take the car back to the pits.
We are gutted! Car #911 is no longer running the Le Mans 24 race. Few minutes before the end of his stint #MichaelFassbender lost control of the car and went into the barrier with no chances to repair the damage.

Fassbender is also part of a team that includes Estonian driver Martin Rump and Austrian Richard Lietz. In 2019 he contested the Porsche Sports Cup Germany and also made his first race on the Rally of the Lakes in Killarney, Ireland to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the event.
For the first time in history
Known as the longest running race in the world, last weekend’s edition marked 100 years of the first race, in 1923 – and marked Ferrari as the big winner since 1965. In the following year, Ford won – and that’s the story told in “Ford vs. Ferrari” (2019), Oscar-nominated film by Matt Damon and Christian Bale. The victory for the Italian team was the first since the clash in the 1960s.
24 hours of Le Mans
Created in the 1920s, with the team from Maranello, which has also been present since the beginning, the race takes place at the Circuit de Sarthe, in France. It aims at endurance and the title of the biggest race in the world, divided into two days, where riders alternate between day and night.
Compared to other motorsport categories, the 24 hours of Le Mans focuses on the performance of the car, not the driver – aiming at technological and automotive progress and favoring a better development of this market.
Over the years, other famous names have participated in the event, such as Patrick Dempsey, Paul Newman and Steve McQueen.
