Michael Jackson was only 16 years old and was still part of the Jackson 5 group with his brothers Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon and Randy when he came to Brazil for the first time. Between September 13th and 22nd, they toured the cities of São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Belo Horizonte, Brasília and Rio de Janeiro.
Between shows, the Jackson 5 also participated on TV Tupi, a Brazilian television network at the time, which was closed in the 1980s.

The singer performed two grand shows at the Morumbi stadium, in São Paulo. The structure impressed fans. Its equipment came in two Antonov An-124 planes, at the time classified as the largest cargo plane model in the world. There were 400 tons of items for the presentation, loaded on 29 trucks heading to the show location.
During his stay, Michael Jackson visited some places, such as the Playcenter amusement park. The place was closed for the time about an hour before.
Music video in 1996
Michae Jackson returned to Brazil in 1996 with director Spike Lee, to record the music video “They Don’t Care About Us”. Recorded in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador, the record also featured the presence of the group Olodum.
“They Don’t Care About Us” talks about social disparities. The musician and his team faced obstacles in the recording, as authorities in the country believed that the recording could harm Brazilian tourism by showing harsh realities.
