Former first lady Michelle Obama talked about moving away and taking time for herself at a podcast released on Tuesday (8), addressing her recent absences from political events and rumors of marital problems.
Speaking about his life, eight years after leaving the White House and two adult daughters, Obama said in the podcast “Work in Progress”, with actress Sophia Bush, who now has the opportunity to control her own agenda and can make “a choice for herself.”
“I could have made many of these decisions years ago, but I didn’t give myself this freedom,” Obama said. “Maybe, as much as I let my daughters live my lives, I use their lives as an excuse for not being able to do something.”
“I still find time to, know, make speeches, be out there, work on projects. I still care about the education of the girls. We, you know, the library will open in a year. Certain things I am doing and I am not doing with the library,” he said.
“That’s what we women, I think we struggled, how to disappoint people. I mean so much that this year people were, you know – they couldn’t even imagine that I was making a choice for myself, that they had to assume my husband and I were divorced,”

The Obama have been together for 32 years, according to the former president of the X in October.

The former first lady has been opened on how Barack Obama’s political ambitions and their time in the Oval Hall were difficult for their marriage, writing in her book “Becoming” that this resulted in solitude and exhaustion.
Since leaving the White House, Obama has spoken out against Trump and campaigned for Vice President Kamala Harris last year.
During a campaign stop in Michigan, a few days before the 2024 elections, Obama said: “Please, please do not give our destinations to people like Trump, who know nothing about us, who have shown deep contempt for us.”
She added, “Because vote for him is a vote against us, against our health, against our value.”
