“I think the worst time to go through is every month you feel like a failure […] It wasn’t for lack of trying, because I always loved, and still love, babies”, commented the artist.
In an interview with BBC Radio 4’s Woman’s Hour program, Michelle reported that unsuccessful attempts to get pregnant were one of the reasons for her divorce in her first marriage. She was in a relationship with businessman Sir Dickson Poon between 1988 and 1992.
“These are conversations you really have to have with yourself and be able to look forward and think ‘yes, we love each other very much now, but in 10 or 20 years, I still can’t give him the family he wants.’ ”, said the actress who plays Madame Morrible in “Wicked”.
And he concluded his reflection: “at some point you stop blaming yourself. There are certain things in your body that don’t work a certain way and you just have to let go and move on. It gets to a point where you have to stop blaming yourself.”
At the age of 61, last year Michelle married rally driver Jean Todt, 78, and became his son’s grandmother.
“I’m 62 now. Of course I’m not going to have a baby now, but the thing is, we just had a grandchild,” she said. “So you feel like you’re still very blessed because you have a baby in your life.”
