Micron has named the reason for the shortage of DDR5 modules in the retail network

Commenting on the quarterly report, Micron, a major manufacturer of memory chips, said the retail shortage of DDR5 memory was not due to a shortage of DDR5 chips. According to the manufacturer, the reason for the shortage of modules was the lack of other components – power controllers and voltage regulators.

Micron has named the reason for the shortage of DDR5 modules in the retail network

According to Micron, “The demand for DDR5 products is significantly outstripping supply due to a shortage of non-memory components, which affects the ability of memory vendors to create DDR5 modules.”

It looks like demand ended up being higher than expected due to the popularity of Intel’s Alder Lake processors. DRAM manufacturers did not prepare enough new components to make DDR5 DIMMs, which led to the lack of DDR5 modules in retail.

Micron is working on a solution to this problem. More specifically, it has entered into “strategic agreements to ensure the supply of certain components” and expects the situation to gradually improve in 2022.
