Micron unveils Crucial P5 Plus: PCIe 4.0 SSD with 6600 MB / s read speed

Representatives of the company Micron have officially announced the start of sales of new Crucial solid-state drives called P5 Plus. This series is represented by drives in the M.2 2280 form factor with a volume of 500 GB, 1 and 2 TB, and the main feature of the line is the PCIe 4.0 x4 interface, support for the NVMe 1.3 protocol and 176-layer 3D TLC NAND memory, which Micron itself produces … The P5 Plus also boasts a new controller, but, unfortunately, it will not yet be possible to assess its capabilities – the manufacturer decided not to indicate the exact model. However, there is no particular need for this, since the declared speed is already decent.

It is important to clarify that although the drive works on the PCIe 4.0 interface, it can be installed in a computer with both PCIe Gen4 and PCIe Gen3 – the new product was tested on both versions of the interface on Intel and AMD platforms.

The manufacturer stated that the 500GB Crucial P5 Plus model provides the user with a maximum read speed of 6600 MB / s and a maximum write speed of 3600 MB / s at a resource of 300 TBW. If you need higher speeds, then you should pay attention to more capacious models – options for 1 and 2 TB provide the same read speed, but the write speed already reaches 5000 MB / s, and the resource has been increased – 600 TBW for 1 TB and 1200 TBW for 2 TB. Moreover, which is quite pleasant for potential buyers, the drives come with a five-year warranty regardless of the amount of internal memory.
