Microsoft is improving online security and privacy by testing a new feature in the Edge browser. This innovation appeared in the latest Dev build of Microsoft Edge. The function is similar in principle to the Cloudflare 1.1.1.1 service. Basically, it is a proxy or VPN that encrypts data while you surf the web so that it is inaccessible to third parties, including your ISP. It also allows you to hide your location in order to access sites blocked in the region.
Microsoft Edge Secure Network requires authorization. This is necessary in order to track the amount of traffic in this mode. You get 1 GB of data per month for free, which is tied to a Microsoft account. The Cloudflare service does not store personal data of users, and all information related to browsing sessions is deleted after 25 hours. The rest of the information is also deleted at the end of each month.
The support page provides all the details about the new service, including how to enable it. This suggests that it should be available soon. Microsoft Edge Dev or Canary users are likely to be the first to access the built-in VPN. It is worth noting that Opera and Firefox already have a VPN service, and in the first browser it is free, and in the second it is paid.
