Microsoft has removed the Cortana assistant app from Google Play and the App Store

On March 31, 2021, Microsoft officially ended support for the Cortana mobile app for Android and iOS. This was reported by the press service of the company on its page.

Microsoft support explained that starting March 31, all reminders and lists from the mobile app will be removed, although users can still access them through Cortana on Windows. The company also noted that the tasks and notifications that were in the voice assistant are synchronized with the Microsoft To Do application, and therefore customers will have the opportunity to restore the material they need. The program is available for both Android and iOS.

Cortana is an artificial intelligence-powered personal assistant that can answer questions and perform small tasks. Some kind of Siri or Alexa from Microsoft. The mobile application was launched in November 2018, however, most likely, the voice assistant has not gained a large enough user base for the company to be interested in its development. In January 2021, Microsoft already discontinued support in several countries around the world, including the UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, India, Mexico and Spain.

XDA Developers believes that the reason for the removal of Cortana is due to a change in the company’s strategy. Microsoft announced the planned closure of the application back in July 2020. The corporation noted that it will move to a transformative AI-powered assistant experience in Microsoft 365 to improve the innovation and development landscape.

Most likely, Cortana is now integrated into a suite of productivity apps. For example, developers have already added Cortana to the Teams mobile app to streamline the management of calendars, email, and meetings. In addition, the Cortana integration provided actionable Outlook summaries for Exchange users.
