Microsoft has announced the HoloLens 2 Industrial Edition augmented reality headset, listening to the wishes of various companies including Lockheed Martin, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Mercedes-Benz USA.
Many companies have requested that the HoloLens 2 headset be used in controlled environments, such as in the semiconductor and pharmaceutical industries, devices must meet particle emission requirements.
HoloLens 2 Industrial Edition meets several new standards. It is ISO 14644-1 Class 5-8 for clean rooms and the intrinsic safety of the headset is UL Class I, Division 2. The headset also supports a new quick-swap program. In the event of a malfunction of your device, replacement can be made as soon as possible. The warranty is extended to two years.
The rest of the HoloLens 2 Industrial Edition matches the characteristics of the HoloLens 2, they support the same applications. The HoloLens 2 Industrial Edition is already available for pre-order at $ 4,950 and shipping will begin this spring. By comparison, the HoloLens 2 Development Edition costs $ 3,500.
HoloLens 2 is vastly superior to the original model. The first generation HoloLens had a 34-degree field of view. In the second generation, the viewing angle has increased to 52 degrees.
