Microsoft is porting a new media player from Windows 11 to Windows 10

Windows 10 will have a new media player that will replace Groove Music. Microsoft quietly added the player to the insider version of the operating system. It’s a brand new application called Windows Media Player, reminiscent of the good old original player, but using WinUI 3.0 and Fluent Design. Even though Windows 10 does not use this interface style, the new media player is made in the design of Windows 11.

The fresh Windows Media Player was first shown in 2021, and only then it was released for Windows 11. Microsoft has never announced that it plans to add the application to earlier versions of its operating system. Of course, some will say that there are free third-party media players for Windows that outperform the built-in audio and video content in many ways. Yes, this is true, but nevertheless, the player built into Windows 11 is a pretty good option for new users.

The new Windows Media Player for Windows 10 is available as an update from the Microsoft Store. You need to go to the store and check for updates, after which Groove Music will be automatically replaced by the new player. You should not worry about playlists – they are all saved. The app is available in both dark and light skins, with a dark theme and a white and orange color scheme by default. The design of Windows Media Player is quite simple, the interface is clear. Unlike Groove Music, the app can play both audio and video files, and it also supports playing HDR content.
