Microsoft’s Windows 11 operating system, according to sources, will make the process of choosing the default browser a much more tedious task.
According to TheVerge, the American tech giant is working on many positive changes to the Windows 11 user interface to improve the user experience. However, the company is making certain changes that make it even harder to switch the default browser to any other third-party browser. In other words, those using Mozilla Firefox, Opera, Vivaldi or others may experience inconvenience when switching to other browsers on Windows 11.

The company has made it harder to disable the default Edge browser through the operating system itself. As with Windows 10, installing a new browser and opening a web link for the first time will offer users the ability to easily switch browsers. And that’s the only easy way to switch browsers. Unless the user chooses to “always use this app” the first time, Microsoft Edge will remain the system default browser. If in Windows 10 you did not select the checkbox, then the offer will appear every time you open the link. In Windows 11, things will be different.
You will have to go into the settings to set the defaults by file or link type, rather than with a simple single radio button. The source took Google Chrome as an example, which needs to be selected as the default application for HTM, HTML, PDF, SHTML, SVG, WEBP, XHT, XHTML, FTP, HTTP and HTTPS files. Of course, such a procedure is much longer and more complicated than before.
