Microsoft unveils Surface Pro 8 – 120Hz tablet with Dolby Vision and Thunderbolt 4 support

Microsoft has unveiled a new Surface Pro 8 tablet that rivals most ultraportables in terms of performance. It features a 13-inch PixelSense Dolby Vision and Adaptive Color Technology, a significant upgrade over the previous generation. What’s more, it is one of the first 2-in-1 devices to support 120Hz refresh rates. And, of course, it is adapted for Windows 11.

The largest display in its class with very small bezels on the sides brings the Surface Pro 8 closer to the Surface Pro X in terms of size. But the most important feature is still not the screen size, but the refresh rate of 120 Hz, although by default the device will operate at 60 Hz, and 120 Hz will be used for tasks where touch is used, including with a stylus. The new dynamic frequency feature in Windows 11 works in a similar way to Apple’s ProMotion, allowing you to switch between different frequencies depending on the task. Microsoft is primarily using the new Surface Pro 8 display to make touch scrolling smoother.

The Surface Pro Signature Keyboard now houses the new Surface Slim Pen 2 stylus, a combination very similar to what the Surface Pro X offers. Thanks to a redesigned tip, the new stylus has less latency, better accuracy, and a vibration motor inside that helps to the user to get the feeling of writing on paper.

Surface Pro 8 will ship with 11th Gen Intel quad-core processors and up to 32GB of RAM. Microsoft finally added Thunderbolt 4 support and ditched the legacy USB-A port. Instead, there are two USB-C Thunderbolt 4 ports and a standard Surface Connect port for charging. This means you can connect the device to multiple 4K displays at once, use high-speed external storage, or even connect to an external graphics card, turning this tablet into a gaming computer.
