Updates for Windows 7 (KB5012626) and Windows 8.1 (KB5012670) address a fairly extensive list of known issues, including problems with Windows Media Center, memory leaks, password changes, and so on.

As a reminder, support for Windows 8.1 will continue until early 2023, while free support for Windows 7 is no longer available. Microsoft ended support for the Windows 7 operating system two years ago on January 14, 2020. For corporate users, Microsoft offers paid extended support for Windows 7. They can receive security updates as part of the Windows 7 ESU program (Extended Security Updates, extended security updates) until January 2023. In 2021, the price of this service has increased to $50 per computer, and in 2022 to $100 per computer.

Note that according to StatCounter as of March 2022, the combined share of Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 exceeds 15% of the total number of Windows PCs in the world. In Russia, this figure exceeds 27%.
