It’s no secret that Windows 10 and 11 operating systems have ads. These are the so-called recommendations that can be seen in the Start menu. Microsoft now appears to be considering adding featured content to the File Explorer app. This conclusion was reached by a Twitter user under the nickname @XenoPanther, who posted a screenshot of the folder options window in the file manager with the appropriate option.
This is the configuration data for the latest versions of shell32.dll.mui and propsys.dll.mui. User @XenoPanther revealed a new option called “Show Recommended Content” in the “General” tab under “Privacy”. Another @PhantomOfEarth believes this has something to do with the addition of two new features in Build 25267 that were forcibly disabled in Build 25272. They can be enabled using the ViveTool app.
At the moment, there is no information about this feature, so we can only speculate how it will work. Perhaps Explorer will show users certain folders and files, or Microsoft may use it as another way to promote its software, for example, the Edge browser, OneDrive cloud service or Microsoft 365 office service. Most importantly, such recommendations in Explorer can be turned off .
By the way, not so long ago, Microsoft wanted to introduce site recommendations into the Start menu, but ultimately decided to abandon this idea.
