Microsoft will change the default Office font for the first time in 15 years, users will choose it

Microsoft will change the default font for Office next year and wants users to help it choose. Although there are over 700 fonts and variations in the Word editor, the software giant has ordered five new custom fonts for its office suite. For the past 15 years, office applications have used the Calibri font by default.

Microsoft has unveiled five new sans-serif fonts in multiple designs to gather user feedback. One of these will be installed as the new default Office font in 2022.

Tenorite

With wide characters, accents and clear punctuation, this font is the most traditional of the five options. It is similar to the modern version of Times New Roman, which was created several decades ago and was also used as the default font.

Skeena

The creators of Skeena were inspired by different periods of type design. It has differences in the thick and thin parts of the letters, as well as very smooth lines in some letters, for example, S, a and J.

Bierstadt

The author of this font was inspired by Swiss typography of the mid-20th century, and the name itself was borrowed from the mountain of the same name in Colorado. Its stroke ends very abruptly, as if it were clipped, but there is a slight softening. The most famous example of this type (grotesque sans serif) is Helvetica. There are also similarities to Arial here.
