Microsoft will soon strip Office for Android users on Chromebooks

In November 2017, Microsoft made one of its core software products, the Office suite, available to Chrome OS users. She released a version of Office for Android suitable for installation on any Chromebook with access to Google Play.

After about four years, Microsoft is going to remove this version from the Google Play store. After intending on September 18, Chromebook users who want to use the capabilities of the Microsoft Office suite will need to use the Internet services Office.com or Outlook.com. To clarify, the Office app will continue to be available on Android devices.

On the one hand, the service provides almost the same capabilities as the application. On the other hand, it may be important for someone to be able to work autonomously, which is practically absent in the Internet service, not to mention the fact that the latter has a serious competitor in the person of the Google Workspace service (previously it was called G Suite), which is closely integrated with a platform controlled by Google.

Microsoft describes the move as “an effort to provide the most optimized experience for Chrome OS / Chromebook clients.”
