Middle East: Biden to announce $1 billion for food security during summit with Arab states

President Joe Biden is set to announce today, during a meeting of Arab states, that the US is committing $1 billion in new short- and long-term food security assistance to the Middle East and North Africa region, a senior administration official said. .

Biden, on the second leg of his first trip to the Middle East as president, has focused on a planned summit with six Gulf states that make up the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.

GCC leaders are also pledging $3 billion over the next two years to programs that align with U.S. infrastructure partnerships and investments around the world, according to the official.
