Middle East: New Israeli fire on Lebanon in retaliation for rocket fire

THE Israeli army struck again today with artillery fire “targets” in the south Lebanon, in retaliation for the launch of four rockets from Lebanese territory to Israel.

Rocket fire from Lebanon, which is technically at war with its neighbor Israel, is the third in less than a week since the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in Gaza broke out.

“Four rockets were fired from Lebanon at Israeli territory (…). “In retaliation, the artillery fired at our targets on Lebanese soil,” the military said in a brief statement to the press.

An army spokesman, Avishai Andreae, assured Twitter that of the four rockets, one was intercepted by the Israeli air defenses, another ended up in an empty field and the last two fell into the sea.

In Beirut, a Lebanese military source said four rockets were fired from a zone near the village of Sendikin in Tire, heading for Israel. No group has so far claimed responsibility for the rocket fire.

Revolutionary Guards: Tehran backs Palestinian battle against Israel

Iran supports the Palestinian war against Israel, the commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards said today.

“Tehran supports the Palestinian struggle against the Zionist regime (Israel),” Hussein Salami said in a televised speech. “The Palestinians have emerged as a nation equipped with missiles.”

Iran backs Palestinian Hamas fighters who rule the Gaza Strip and have fired hundreds of rockets into Israeli territory.

The Islamic Republic does not recognize Israel.
