Living donor kidney transplants are still little known and practiced in Italy. “There is still no culture on this type of donation. It is often seen as the last choice after long periods of waiting for a deceased donor kidney, even if the international results tell us that this is the first option to consider, especially when dialysis has not yet started ”, explains Ferraresso. “Patients do not have the courage to ask, doctors speak little about it: in countries much more advanced than us there are real teams of doctors and nurses who go to families to give information on the disease, on dialysis and on what it entails , on the possibilities of getting out of it ».
