Milan Fashion Week: what you need to know (and to expect)

In the last period, a certain optimism has finally begun to breathe in the fashion system. The events, despite due attention to the rules of hygiene and distancing, have gradually returned – and totally – to the presence, as demonstrated by the fashion week in New York, which has just ended.

Milan Fashion Week will be inaugurated shortly, scheduled from 22 to 28 February, and even the Milanese metropolis seems to be ready to finally return to normality: on the occasion of the collections for theAutumn / Winter 2022-23they will follow each other well 170 events, including 67 fashion shows, 77 presentations and 9 events, of which only a small percentage will take place digitally. But what are the big news of this fashion week? Here they are in 5 points.

1. Big returns on the calendar
The fashion houses returning to the official calendar are certainly no small names: Alessandro Michele, after a series of fashion seasons presented through fashion films, digital events, and a glorious show in Los Angeles, has chosen to re-present Gucci in Milan. As well as Bottega Venetaat whose reins we find the new creative director Matthieu Blazybut also Diesel And Trussardi.

The latter recently refreshed his image thanks to creative directors Benjamin A. Huseby and Serhat Isik, to start a whole new chapter. starting from the logo: the greyhound, emblem of the Italian brand introduced in 1973, has been revisited in a decisive and contemporary way, while remaining faithful to the original symbol.

2. Ennio Capasa’s new brand
After 30 years at the direction of Costume Nationalclosed in 2016, the Apulian designer has chosen to launch a new project under the name of Capasa Milan, with the aim of uniting and carrying on haute couture and new technologies. The brand will be launched by a collection for women and men entitled Before that begins, presented on February 22 by the Arcimboldi Theater. The garments can be purchased online, and the brand already promises noteworthy sustainable initiatives, such as the creation of a clothing recycling process, and the construction of a local company, in Puglia, with an industrial partner. In Capasa Milano will also be involved Rita Capasa, in charge of marketing and distribution, and the President of the Italian Chamber of Fashion Carlo Capasa, who will instead occupy a strategic position in terms of communication and production.

3. Emerging designers supported by the big names
The parade on February 23 of Marco Rambaldian emerging brand founded by the homonymous designer, will be live on the Instagram profile of Valentino: an initiative by Pierpaolo Piccioli, creative director of the Maison, in collaboration with the National Chamber of Italian Fashion, who wants to raise awareness of the importance of promote the new names of Made in Italy, with an eye to the future and a great willingness to support. Again with reference to the emerging talents of the Bel Paese, we also find the call for proposals launched by Camera Moda Fashion Trust for 2022: the brands participating in the selection will be evaluated by an international jury to access a mentoring and financial support program, thanks to the partnership with MAX & Co and Scalapay.

4. The debuts on the catwalk
There are numerous firsts on the catwalk of Milan fashion week: Weekend Max Mara Habito by Patricia Urquiola, the collaboration between Max & Co and Efisio Rocco Marras, Francesco Murano (winner of the Who is on Next 2020 event for Women’s Fashion), Luciano Padovan, MISS SOHEE supported by Dolce & Gabbana, CrossbowRamzen, Bloke, Andrea Incontri, Cukovy and SA SU PHI.
