The events in the heart of the Tortona area, the numerous installations located in the most disparate corners of the city, the scents and flavors of street food more sophisticated and a visit to the exhibition halls populated by new home furnishings.
All this unfortunately is still largely a distant memory, but the design doesn’t stop, if anything, it takes new paths, digital and virtual, to present its innovations and draw attention to one of the most important sectors for the Italian image and economy.
And so, Milano Design City returns from 12 to 18 April, which presents itself as a mainly virtual exhibition, but with some appointments also on site – in compliance with the anti Covid-19 measures in force – around the city to discover new areas of design, installations and exhibitions.
Among the main events scheduled theinauguration of the Teresa Pomodoro Zen Garden in Piazza Piola, a new meditative space with an artistic installation by Kengiro Azuma (five cylindrical steps of different heights that welcome two bronze toads) and a drop-shaped pedestrian area embraced by 21 cherry trees interspersed with benches. The inauguration is set for Sunday 18 April 2021 at 5.00 pm, with music, dance and the reading of the texts of the playwright and actress Teresa Pomodoro to whom the garden is named.
On the other side of the city, it goes on stage instead Alpha District, the territorial marketing project for the artistic and cultural revitalization of Portello and the surrounding areas. From 12 to 18 April it will be possible to follow a guided tour inside the area to discover a concentrate of still little known author architectures.
Vogue Italy instead proposes the initiative Life in Vogue: love letters to Milan, with a week of online events and the reinterpretation of the magazine’s editorial office, decontextualized from the urban environment and immersed in nature according to the creative visions of international interior designers. The initiative of Vanity Fair instead it gives voice to great stories about sustainability, starring women who are changing the world to build a better future.
Also noteworthy is the new edition of Interni Designer’s Week, the urban event dedicated to Industrial and Furniture Design, understood as the culture of design and innovation. The initiative, of which Audi has been a partner since its first implementation and carried out under the patronage of the Municipality of Milan, will offer over 10 days of meetings and phygital events from 12 to 23 April to spread and amplify projects, opinions, stories and people that generate them. And it will not miss the presentation of the new awaited Audi Q4 e-tron.
The digital platform will also be available for the entire duration of Milano Design City 2021 Fuorisalone.it, supported by main partners Hyundai and Rado, it presents a series of initiatives – virtual and on site – on the subject The Forms of Living, a space for reflection on how living spaces could evolve in the future.
The 5Vie district, on whose digital platform a series of appointments on the role of design in Italy are scheduled e Isola Design District, which starts the hybrid manifestation Isola Design Festival with project presentations, live talks, virtual exhibitions and interviews with international guests on Isola Tv.
To visit, then, the interiors of the toll booths in Piazza XXV Aprile which, from Monday 12 to Friday 23 April 2021, host the exhibition itinerary Tecno: back to emotions & future work, with the contribution of Zanotta. An exhibition dedicated to the most innovative technologies both in shared workplaces and in homes that have returned to the center of everyday life in the last year.
At the same time, the main Italian and international design companies are launching their new collections with furnishings, accessories and solutions that are now futuristic now recalling the glorious past.
