Despite the formality surrounding summits of heads of state, Argentine President Javier Milei ended his first speech as president at the United Nations General Assembly with a swear word that forms part of the slogan for which he became known.
“May God bless the Argentines and may the forces of heaven be with us,” said Milei at the end of her speech, before shouting: “Viva la libertad, c*!”, or “Long live freedom, c*!”, in Portuguese.
The slogan, uttered again, now in front of other world leaders, marked the electoral campaign that took him to the Casa Rosada and is still chanted in his speeches.
The Spanish word is also an impolite expression that refers to the male sexual organ.
