Milei says she will work to return the Falklands to Argentina

Argentine President Javier Milei said during an event marking the 42nd anniversary of the Falklands War, this Tuesday (2), that he will work to return the islands to Argentine control.

“During my government, I commit to having a clear course of action so that the Falklands can return to Argentine hands. On behalf of the Argentine people, I want to thank the veterans, their families and all those who wear the uniform for their service”, said Milei.

The president also stated that the best way to honor those who died on the battlefield is to claim Argentine sovereignty over the territory.

The dispute over the sovereignty of the islands triggered a war between the United Kingdom and Argentina in 1982. Differences between both governments on this issue continue

Currently, around 3 thousand people live on these islands, organized with their own government. The archipelago is administered as one of 14 British overseas territories.

Recently, Javier Milei and UK Chancellor David Cameron met in Davos, Switzerland. The Argentine president assured that he put the Falklands dispute on the agenda “to advance solutions on the issue”,
