Argentine President Javier Milei called the permanent withdrawal of Spain's ambassador from Buenos Aires “absurd in diplomatic terms”. And he classified the movement as “typical madness of an arrogant socialist”. The statements came from an interview with the Argentine TV channel LN+.
Milei also accused Pedro Sánchez, Spanish Prime Minister, of “taking personally a comment that did not contain any name as an allusion and, in a senseless move, decided to embark on a diplomatic escalation. This is Pedro Sánchez’s problem.”
In his speech, at an event organized over the weekend by the far-right party Vox, Milei said that global elites should be careful with the destructive ideas of socialism and the “type of people” and “levels of abuse” that can generate before making an obvious allusion to Gomez's case when he spoke of “a corrupt wife”.
Milei had already said that it was Spain that should apologize to him after insults from authorities, including the insinuation that he was a drug user. But, in the interview, he said he would not be so “stupid” as to respond in kind to Spain’s diplomatic reprimand.
Sánchez denies the accusation against his wife made by the group Manos Limpias (Clean Hands) that she used her influence to obtain sponsors for a university course.
