The Union Military Court ordered the preventive detention of two soldiers suspected of involvement in the theft of 21 machine guns from the Army.
According to the Southeast Military Command, the warrant was executed last Friday (23), and the hearing was held the following day.
The names and ranks of the arrested soldiers were not disclosed, as well as the crimes the suspects are facing. If found guilty, the corporals could be expelled from the Army and receive sentences of up to 50 years in prison.
The weapons belong to the São Paulo War Arsenal, located in the city of Barueri, and were stolen in September 2023. Military personnel and civilians accused of the disappearance of war material were indicted.

They were held responsible for theft, embezzlement, reception and loss of weapons. Nineteen machine guns were recovered, and two are still sought.
According to the Army, the stolen weapons are unusable and must be rendered useless or destroyed.
About the case
The Army noticed the disappearance of 21 machine guns from the War Arsenal after an inspection of the Barueri barracks on October 10. The arsenal was missing 13 50 caliber machine guns and eight 7.62 mm caliber machine guns.
The Southeast Military Command then opened a military police investigation to investigate the case. According to the internal procedure, it was concluded that the military were negligent because they allowed the weapons to “disappear” and were negligent in the delay in noticing the disappearance of the equipment.
As investigations progressed, the disciplinary arrest of the military personnel accused of involvement in the theft was determined in October 2023.
