Military exercises by Russia on islands claimed by Japan

Maybe Russia’s attention is focused on war in Ukraine, but this does not mean that it has left all the other fronts to their fate. In fact, one of them seems to have revived due to the sanctions imposed by the Russian invasion.

Specifically, the Russiaafter halting its talks with Japan, held military exercises in the Kuril Islands, an area that has been claimed by Tokyo for 70 years, claiming it was occupied by the Soviet Union after World War II.

According to reports, More than 3,000 soldiers and powerful equipment took part in the exerciseswithout mentioning at what point in the archipelago they were made exactly.

On Friday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Japan announced that it would freeze the assets of an additional 25 Russians and ban exports to 81 Russian organizations, as part of sanctions for Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida has said that Japan will take steps to remove the most-favored-nation trade regime from Russia and prevent it from avoiding economic sanctions using digital resources.
